Hike Description:

Caledon Hills Club still has the special Canada 150 badges to give out to people who complete all 5 hikes in this series. See the Caledon Hills website for details. This is hike no. 5 with 3 extra kms at the beginning. Meet at 7th Line parking lot on Airport Rd -- km 42.2 Map 18. Take Airport Rd north. 7th Line is about 2 km north of Mono Mills (Hwy 9). From here we will do a shuttle to the start of the hike. Hike can be shortened if weather is poor. No dropout, no dogs please. Hiking boots recommended.

This hike will involve a very unusual look at Hamilton's core area. Let's just call it a mystery hike. After all, who knows where the Shadow lurks? Wear boots. We'll meet in the first parking lot on Mountain Brow Blvd. just to the east of the top of the Wentworth Street stairs. An optional pub stop will follow. Climb the steps and walk the streets and trails of West Hamilton.  We will hike sections of the Bruce Trail as well as the trails of Iroquoia Heights C.A.  There will be weekly walks all summer.  Now we are all getting older we are not hiking as fast as we used to!

Meet at the Dundas Valley Trail Centre parking lot - lot closest to the Trail Centre.  The entrance to the Trail Centre is located off Governors Road, Dundas.  Parking fee or Hamilton Conservation Authority pass.  Beginning at the Trail Centre, we will hike three loops involving the Spring Creek, John White and Sawmill trails. We can park in lot at Walker's Line and No 2 Side Road.  Hike up the Bruce Trail into the conservation area. Escarpment Edge Trail, South Loop Trail/Bruce Trail and North Loop Trail.  Snack/lunch at Brock Harris Lookout.  Bring snack/lunch, water, icers. There is short ladder as we ascend the escarpment. We will complete the Beaver Dam trail and parts of the Red Oak and Hilton Falls trails. Will be an opportunity to visit the falls and hopefully see spring unravelling. Bring water and snacks. Icers may be needed. A late lunch at the Mowhawk Chop House (Guelph Line) is optional.

Hike Description:

Day 1 will be followed by Day 2 on March 31st.

From LCBO parking lot we will shuttle to Queenston Heights Park (stone cairn marking the Southern Terminus of the BT) where we will begin our hike. Crossing the Welland Canal is only one of the highlights of this hike! Be sure to bring lots of water, snacks and a lunch. Icers may be necessary. Driver(s) will be required to drive back to starting point to recover shuttle car(s). Tx!

Hike Description:

From parking lot we will shuttle to LCBO parking lot (Glendale Ave, St. Catharines) where we will begin our hike. This hike will take us past the historic Decew Falls and into Short Hills PP where we will have a chance to view the Swayze Falls. Bring lots of water, snacks and a lunch. Icers may be necessary. Driver(s) will be required to drive back to the starting point to retrieve the shuttle car(s). TX!

Location: Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail in East Hamilton

Hike Description:

This hike follows the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail from Hutch's Restaurant to the Burlington Canal and back. Keep your eye out for patches of black ice. In truth, the pace can be as slow, moderate, or  fast as you want since a trail that goes there-and-back doesn't require you to match your leader's pace. Just fall in step with a person whose pace is close to yours. The meeting place is Hutch's Restaurant on Van Wagner's Rd. in east Hamilton. When you turn into the parking lot in front of Hutch's, look to the line of cars just to the right of the restaurant. An optional pub stop will follow. Location: Harbour Front Trail in west Hamilton

Hike Description:

This trail follows the Bay Front Trail in Hamilton. Since it's a there-and-back hike to Princess Point in Cootes Paradise (or Old Cootes Paradise if you wish), you can walk at your own pace or fall into step with someone  whose pace is similar. We meet at the front door of William's Coffee Pub on Discovery Lane which runs north from Guise St. between James St. and John St. in Hamilton  Park in the lot to the right of William's. I'm guessing that running shoes might be appropriate by this point, but I can't promise there won't be slippery patches. An optional pub stop will follow. This hike is designed to give new hikers a sense of what hiking on the Bruce Trail has to offer. Directions to Meeting Place: Mono Community Centre parking lot. Take Hwy 10 north to Dufferin Road 8 about 10 km north of Orangeville. Follow Road 8 to Mono Centre. The hike leader’s car will have a Canadian flag attached to the window behind the driver’s seat. We will leave all cars in this parking lot while we complete this loop hike.Since the ground on this 9.0 km hike is uneven and rocky (and may be muddy) in some sections, hiking boots or hiking shoes are preferable but since new hikers may not have access to all equipment, just be sure you wear comfortable walking shoes. If you do bring bottled water, snacks or extra clothes, please consider carrying these in a knapsack or fanny pack so your hands are free making walking more comfortable. We will hike from Hilton Falls to Speyside. This is a wonderful part of the trail, but it has challenging sections, with rocks and roots and along the edge of the escarpment. We're likely to see some Trillium and other spring flowers, so bring your camera along, as well as water and a lunch/snack.

Hike Description:

We will meet in the north parking lot closest to Hwy 5 where washrooms are sometimes (?) available. The hike will follow the escarpment ridge along the main trail towards Waterdown and return via the Blue Trail. If conditions are favourable we will hike to the waterfalls off Waterdown Rd. Bring snack, water, sunscreen and bugspray. Refreshment stop at the Copper Kettle in Waterdown afterwards if you so choose and for anyone interested we will go on a tour of the True North Art Galley just around the corner. We will do a loop hike of about 14 km along Sawmill Creek and the Credit River (several hills). Bring water, snack/lunch, and gear appropriate for the conditions. No dogs please.

Directions: From the 403 W take the Main St. W. Exit. Turn left onto Main St and travel to Osler Dr. Turn right and Follow Governor's Rd. Turn Left onto Governor's Rd and follow to the Dundas Valley C.A. at the edge of town. Entrance will be on your left.
Hike Description: Several loops around Dundas Valley C.A. bring a snack, water.

Talk about geology, trees, gigantic rocks, pot holes, a world famous whirlpool, this hike has them all. There is an optional drop out at 4 km before the somewhat difficult trail to the Whirlpool

One day on Flower Pot Island cost approx. $55.00 for the glass bottom ferry and Parks Canada fee.
